AW Dave, now ya made me cry!
I am a convinced Quaker but a birthright Cubs fan.
My father lived a long life 1917-2005 but he never saw the Cubs take it all. It is 100 years this year. I suspect that there is now no living human who remembers the Cubs winning the world series.
My personal belief about the second coming of Christ is obvious,
It will be October.
It will be game seven at home in Wrigley.
It will be the bottom of the ninth with only one out before the Cubs win.
Lightening will strike the abomination that they call the lighting system,
And Jesus will descend unto Second base calling the end to all human travail
because He knew that they were somehow, going to choke.
I’m a “birthright Phillies fan” (you know I have to steal that one now), but this song gets me, too. I so miss Steve Goodman. He was, I believe, truly an old soul.
And your little scenario bears a striking resemblence to what happened here in ‘73. We’re all still convinced that Joe Carter is Satan.
don’y get me started on the Mets!
Good to see your post focusing on Steve Goodman. He often doesn’t get his due. You might be interested in my 800-page biography, “Steve Goodman: Facing the Music.” The book delves deeply into the genesis of all the songs you mention, and “Dying Cub Fan,” the subject of your video, gets particularly detailed treatment.
You can find out more at my Internet site (below). Amazingly, the book’s first printing sold out in just eight months, all 5,000 copies, and a second printing of 5,000 is available now. The second printing includes hundreds of little updates and additions, including 30 more photos for a total of 575. To order a second-printing copy, see the “online store” page of my site. Just trying to spread word about the book. Feel free to do the same!
