I haven’t done much of this lately, but the old blogging well between my ears is rather dry at the moment, so I’ll dip into this one.
You know the rules by now:
* Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post that sentence along with these instructions on your blog (or facebook wall).
* Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.
Okay, so here it is:
“Sometimes the answer can be found in your own set of skills: specifically, in the way you question your management counterpart about what it would take to reach a fair resolution of the issue at hand.”
Those words of wisdom come from The Union Steward’s Complete Guide, 2nd Edition, edited by David Prosten. I have mentioned this text before, and I consider it to be an absolutely essential reference source for anyone who has any sort of leadership position in any sort of union. This passage is from a chapter on grievances.
So, if you’re still reading this, you have been tagged.
PS: And if you came to this blog looking for that picture of Dara Torres, I took it down.
Yeah, you know who you are…

I love the variety of sentences that this thing is turning out . . . and how often they make sense on their own.

Meh.
“Front page of the Daily Prophet, I expect, cauldron leaks.”
(I’ve been keeping company with the Young Mr. Potter of late.)
Jenn: Ah, those were the days. We all read all of them around here: in fact, we had big arguments about who’d get to each new one first. And my students couldn’t get enough of them.
My students are all reading about sexy teen vampires these days. Borrrrrring…
“Although our example uses the key attribute to specify a String key and value-ref to specify a reference value, the <entry> element actually has two attributes…”

Now aren’t you sorry you insisted on the “closest” book?
To tell you the truth, mine wasn’t the closest book by a long shot. ….Well, by a good 24 inches anyway. But the entire bookshelf was “closest” and there was no way of identifying which of several dozens of books might qualify on the shelf there. So I went for the closest stray book instead, half a step away in my tote bag on the bedroom doorknob.
HEY! No cheating on memes!!!
I still haven’t read all of Harry Potter. I suppose I shall have to once I land a school library job. Twilight? No thanks.
