The Blogger Album Project!

bloggeralbumprojectawardThis is a meme I can seriously get into.  I stole it from Border Explorer, who didn’t tag me, so I tagged myself, because I love blogging about music and I don’t do it enough.

THE RULES:

1.  Post your list of the seven best-ever albums, the seven bloggers you will tag, a copy of these rules, and a link back to this page.

2.  Each person tagged will put a URL to their Blogger Album Project along with a list of their seven best albums in the comment section HERE.

3.   Feel free to post the “I Contributed…” graphic in your sidebar (yeah, like WordPress would let me do that), along with a link back to this page.

4. Post a link back to the blogger who tagged you.  Like I said, she didn’t tag me, but there we go anyway.)

THE AGITATOR’S CHOICES:

World/Latin: Seed – Afro-Celt Sound System

Blues: The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker – John Lee Hooker

Pop/Rock: London Calling – The Clash (This, IMHO, is the single greatest LP ever.)

Country: The Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash

Jazz: Like MindsChick Corea, Pat Metheny, Roy Haynes, Dave Holland

Folk: Anthology – Steve Goodman (Yes, it’s two CDs.  Yes, I’m cheating.  No, I don’t care.)

If I Could Only Have One LP: A Love Supreme - John Coltrane

If you’re still reading, consider youself tagged.

Note: Posting will be much lighter this week, as it’s the close of the first marking period and I have a LOT to do here.  And I’m feeling a bit under the weather.  Nothing serious.  Just annoying.  And requiring… ugh…antibiotics.

Be good while I’m gone…

  1. Boy, this looks like a fun one except for the fact that narrowing it down to one album per category will be extremely difficult. Such a dilemma!

  2. Sorry that you are not feeling well! Good thoughts and wishes to you David!

I did not do this meme, so I am glad every time I find another person who did.

I must check out some of your selections.

  3. awesome! i’m going to try to do this! what a fun project…

  4. It’s a nice break from the serious stuff, yeah.

  5. You have cool selections!

  6. Good to see your post about the “No Big Surprise” anthology by Steve Goodman. He often doesn’t get his due. You might be interested in my 800-page biography, “Steve Goodman: Facing the Music.” The book delves deeply into the genesis of all the songs on “No Big Surprise” and many others.

You can find out more at my Internet site (below). Amazingly, the book’s first printing sold out in just eight months, all 5,000 copies, and a second printing of 5,000 is available now. The second printing includes hundreds of little updates and additions, including 30 more photos for a total of 575. It won a 2008 IPPY (Independent Publishers Association) silver medal for biography: http://www.independentpublisher.com/article.php?page=1231. To order a second-printing copy, see the “online store” page of my site. Just trying to spread word about the book. Feel free to do the same!

  7. “Pop/Rock: London Calling – The Clash (This, IMHO, is the single greatest LP ever.)”

In a review of the book “The Clash,” today’s Sunday Times Book Review makes the following reference:

“Rolling Stone named ‘London Calling’ the best album of the 1980s.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/07/books/review/Light-t.html?scp=2&sq=the%20clash&st=cse

Rolling Stone doesn’t go as far as you do, but the #1 album in a decade is not too shabby.

  8. Not too shabby, no, true.

But it’s still the very best ev-ah, IMHO.

I saw this book just this morning at our local Big Non-Union Chain Bookstore. It looks pretty cool. Too late to put on my Christmas list, though. I’ll have to save my money up and look for it online…
